Kaplan: Recovering

NEWBURGH – Newburgh philanthropist William Kaplan is in the UCI
at Saint Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh following a Sunday
accident in the city.

Mayor Judy Kennedy said his car was broadsided by another vehicle at Third
and Lander streets.

The mayor said Kaplan suffered a broken shoulder, ribs and ankle. No visitors
are allowed to see him.

Kennedy said he is expected to make a full recovery. “We should
pray for his healing,” she said.

Kaplan is a key player in the Newburgh Unity Armory Center and his family
foundation was a major contributor in the financing of the Kaplan Center
of SUNY Orange in Newburgh. He also contributed to the funding of the
physical education center at Mount Saint Mary College, also in Newburgh.

That facility bears both his name and that of his late wife, Elaine.
