MONTICELLO- A local law firm that donated $5,000 to the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office to support the agency’s K-9 program has been recognized by the county legislature for their generosity.

Martin Rutberg and Lawrence Breslow of the Rutberg Breslow Law Firm made the donation which funded a new police dog as well as related equipment.  The sheriffs office K-9 program was put on pause several years ago when one dog died of an illness and another was hit by a car.

Sheriff Mike Schiff pushed to revive the program earlier this year and has since assigned a deputy who is currently in training at the Orange County Sheriff’s K-9 Academy.

“Budget limitations for special units are always a concern,” said Schiff.  “We appreciate this important donation which will help us re-establish our K-9 program.”
