HILLCREST – Ramapo Town Police arrested a Spring Valley man on a charge of attempted murder in a shooting Monday afternoon.
Cab driver Rem Louis, 23, of Spring Valley was shot while driving on West Eckerson Road in Hillcrest shortly after 3 p.m. He was transported to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla where he remains.
The investigation determined this was not a random shooting. It is believed that one or both of the passengers in the taxi were the intended targets.
Following investigation, town police arrested Hakeem Gentles, 22, who was charged with assault in addition to attempted murder. He was arraigned and sent to the Rockland County Jail in lieu of $1 million bail.
Police announced late Thursday afternoon that the car used in connection with the shooting had been located.
