KINDERHOOK – State Police arrested a Kinderhook man on a felony assault charge following a domestic incident.
Jeffrey Vanalstyne, 58, was also charged with a misdemeanor of criminal mischief.
Troopers were dispatched to a residence on McCagg Road in Kinderhook after Columbia County 911 received a hang-up call with a woman heard screaming for help in the background.  Police found the victim with several visible injuries and following an investigation discovered that Vanalstyne and the victim had engaged in a verbal dispute that turned physical.
Vanalstyne was arrested and the victim was transported to Columbia Memorial Hospital in the City of Hudson by Valatie Rescue Squad.  He was released on his own recognizance.
Police later followed up on the woman’s condition and learned she had been transferred to Albany Medical Center because of the severity of her injuries including several broken bones.
As a result, Vanalstyne was taken into custody again, on an upgraded charge of assault. He was then remanded to the Columbia County Jail without bail pending a future court appearance.
State Police were assisted by the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.
