PORT JERVIS – Orange and Rockland Utilities is scheduled to begin a new natural gas main replacement project in Port Jervis on Monday.
The project is designed to help improve service by replacing a portion of the low-pressure natural gas distribution system, which now features cast-iron mains, with a high-pressure system, which uses modern high-density, plastic mains.
The $94,000 project will replace about 3,000 feet of the low pressure gas main, including 85 gas services to buildings, as part of a large-scale effort to eliminate all low pressure gas main in Port Jervis.
O&R contractor Titanic will be replacing the gas main on Front Street from Sussex Avenue to Owen Street and a section of main on Jersey Avenue at Fowler Street.
The work will be performed Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. for about nine weeks.
