Handgun recovered from Shaw on May 10, 2024
Jaylen Shaw allegedly sold more drugs to the police.

TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – A 22-year-old accused drug dealer was arrested on Friday, May 10, by the Dutchess County Drug Task Force on drug and gun charges.  Friday’s arrest comes 23 days after the task force arrested Jaylen Shaw on April 18 at his Pendell Commons residence on drug and gun charges.

The Mid Hudson News article on Shaw’s April arrest can be found here.

Friday’s raid at Shaw’s apartment is the result of an investigation into continued drug sales by the defendant.  When he was arrested on April 18, he was charged with the felonies of criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of a firearm, and criminal sale of a controlled substance. At the April arraignment, he was released back into the community with an appearance ticket due to the New York Bail Reform law.

Detective Sergeant Adam Harris, the Dutchess County Drug Task Force Coordinator told Mid-Hudson News that his unit received a tip that Shaw returned to selling drugs after his April arrest.  Undercover task force agents were able to make several additional drug purchases from Shaw as part of the new investigation.

On Friday morning, task force agents and the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office ESU team executed a new search warrant at Shaw’s apartment in the Town of Poughkeepsie.  During the raid, agents found Shaw to have another illegal loaded 9mm handgun in his possession and more crack cocaine.  He was processed on the felony charges of criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of a firearm, and criminal sale of a controlled substance.  The new charges resulted in Shaw being remanded to the Dutchess County Jail on $100,000 cash bail, a $200,000 secured bond, or a $500,000 partially secured bond following his arraignment.

“Our agents will continue to investigate and arrest the suspected drug dealers who are hurting our community so we can keep Dutchess County safe,” Harris said.
