TOWN OF CRAWFORD – A Wurtsboro man is in the Orange County Jail without bail following his arrest Sunday evening by Crawford Town Police.
On Saturday, March 18, officers spotted Seth Pondi driving a car on Main Street in Crawford, knowing that he had a revoked driver’s license. He was stopped and officers noticed a four-year-old child in the back seat.
Pondi became uncooperative and attempted to drive away.  As officers attempted to stop him, a five-year member of the police department was dragged by the car and struck by the mirror. Officers again tried to stop Pondi but he failed to comply.
The injured officer was treated for his injuries at Orange Regional Medical Center.
Initial attempts to locate Pondi were unsuccessful. He was eventually taken into custody without incident Sunday evening at a residence on Yarwood Road in the Town of Shawangunk.
Pondi was charged with assault, reckless endangerment, endangering the welfare of a child, reckless driving, resisting arrest, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, unlawful fleeing and several vehicle and traffic offenses.
Crawford Police were assisted by State Police, Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, State Environmental Conservation Police, Town of Wallkill Police and Manchester Township, New Jersey Police.
The investigation is continuing.  Any witnesses are asked to call Crawford Police at 845-744-3300
