86 years old and still going strong
MIDDLETOWN – The City of Middletown’s Paramount Theater will receive improvements to its sound and lighting systems with a $100,000 state grant.
Mayor Joseph DeStefano said the funds, secured by Senator John Bonacic,
will add to the patron’s experience.
“The more we can put into sound and light and other theater improvements the theater does, because people experience it once and they want to come back,” the mayor said. “At times it is difficult to do as a city operating budget.”
The funding, through the State and Municipal Facilities program, will also pay for new main entrance doors.
The 1,100-seat theater opened in June 1930. The city took control of the facility in 1996 and currently operates it with first-run movies, live concerts and other functions.
