Jobs soar in Greene County, decline in Dutchess-Putnam

ALBANY – Greene County, at 5.8 percent increase, is the big winner
region-wide in terms of new jobs in the 12-months ending in January. On
the other end of the spectrum, the Dutchess-Putnam Metropolitan lost 1.7
percent of its jobs.

Across the Hudson Valley, jobs grew by 8,000 or 1.1 percent, to 766,500.
Following Greene County’s growth, Columbia County grew by 3.7 percent,
Sullivan County by 3.2 percent, Ulster County by 3.1 percent, and the
Orange-Rockland-Westchester Metro Area by 1.4 percent.

Region-wide, jobs were added in professional and business services –
5,400; educational and health services – 4,600; trade, transportation
and utilities – 2,300; and other services – 1,000. Job losses
were centered in leisure and hospitality – 3,000; manufacturing
– 1,200; and natural resources, mining, and construction –
1,000.
