MID-HUDSON – New Year’s
Day was a busy one in maternity units in area hospitals.

Martin King Charles Paul Jr., born to India and Martin Paul of Chester,
was welcomed into the world at 3:20 a.m. at St. Anthony Community Hospital’s
Kennedy Birthing Center in Warwick. He weighed seven pounds, three ounces
and measured 22 inches long.

Martin has two sisters, Angel, 7, and Asia, 3.

Across the Hudson River, 25 minutes later, at 3:45 a.m., Kamyah Selman
was born at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. She weighed
six pounds, 10 ounces. Her mother, Shatya Tolliver, and father, Elvin
Selman, were surprised when contractions started on New Year’s Eve,
more than one week before their child’s January 8 due date.

At mid-morning, at 10:49 a.m., Sophia Rae Simone, was born at Putnam Hospital
Center in Carmel, weighing seven pounds, eight ounces, and 19.25 inches
long.

Sophia Rae was born to Amanda and Matt Simone of Poughquag.

She came into the world two days before her due date and her parents did
not know whether they were having a girl or boy.

“This is a perfect way to start the New Year,” said momma
Amanda, while kissing her baby girl’s cheeks.
