Jackknifed trailer at Route 17 exit 116

MID-HUDSON – Snow fell on the Mid-Hudson region, resulting in auto
accidents galore Thursday morning. By early afternoon, the precipitation
had changed to rain.

On westbound Route 17 near exit 116, a tractor-trailer jackknifed across
the road, resulting in a partial closure near the ramp to Route 17K in
the Town of Wallkill. It was reopened a short time later.
Areas of Route 17 in Sullivan County, particularly in the hilly areas,
are slippery.

In the hamlet of Highland, a car skidded and struck a tree at Tilson Avenue
and Route 9W. There is an initial report of an injury.
A three-car accident on Spring Brook Avenue in Rhinebeck, in front of
the Dutchess County Fairgrounds, occurred around 1:30 p.m. with no injuries
reported.

Authorities warned motorists to be extra careful Thursday evening as wet
roads could change to black ice.
