MONTICELLO – A New York City man has been arrested by the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office and charged with fraudulently registering to vote.
Hamo Hot, 34, of Brooklyn was arrested last Wednesday, December 14 for allegedly filing a voter registration form at the Sullivan County Board of Elections on November 20, 2015. On the same day, he filed an application for a New York State pistol permit, said Undersheriff Eric Chaboty.
Hot is not a United States citizen.
During the background check for the pistol permit, Hot’s green card indicated he is a citizen of Montenegro, formerly Yugoslavia. Deputies realized he did not live at the Ferndale address he listed on either application.
Hot was arrested on a warrant in Manhattan by state troopers on Wednesday and turned over to the sheriff’s office. He was charged with the felony of fraudulently registering to vote, arraigned before Sullivan County Court Judge Michael McGuire and committed to the county jail in lieu of $10,000 bail pending a future court appearance.
In addition to the State Police, the sheriff’s office was assisted by US Homeland Security Investigations.
