Spring Valley man convicted of sexual assault, rape of child

NEW CITY – A Rockland County Court jury convicted a Spring Valley man on rape and other charges in connection with the sexual assault of a five-year-old girl with whom he had a familial relationship. The abuse took place in the Village of Spring Valley.
Luiz Acevedo-Lopez, 19, was convicted on the charges of predatory sexual assault against a child, rape, criminal sexual act, two counts of sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child.
Between January 1, 2016 and March 31, 2016, Acevedo-Lopez repeatedly sexually assaulted the child, who is now six. Trial testimony included that of the victim. The jury was also shown Acevedo-Lopez’s videotaped statement to Spring Valley detectives.
When sentenced in March 2017, Acevedo-Lopez faces up to 25 years to life in state prison on the top count of predatory sexual assault against a child.
