NEW CITY – Clarkstown
Central School District officials sent all students at Clarkstown South
High School home at mid-day Wednesday after a suspicious package was found
on a chair outside a second floor classroom.

Following investigation, it was determined that it was a container filled
with concrete and that it was not dangerous, said school Principal Debra
Tarantino.

A teacher had discovered the package and notified the school resource
officer, who contacted his lieutenant who came to the school and deemed
the package to be suspicious.

The Rockland County Sheriff’s Office was called in to investigate
and the Clarkstown Police Department conducted a sweep of the building
as a precaution.

As a parent of a student at South High, Clarkstown Town Supervisor George
Hoehmann said he is “deeply concerned and outraged” over the
incident.
