NYACK – Officials at Nyack
Hospital ceremonially broke ground Monday for the new emergency department
and medical village to be constructed at the hospital in the Village of
Nyack.

The new emergency department will be 26,000-square feet, doubling the
current size, and the medical village, at 7,800-square feet will contain
a multi-specialty outpatient service center.

Hospital President Dr. Mark Geller said it will be designed to coordinate
care between the community and hospital for patients with behavioral health
and physical issues.

“Within the space we will have primary caretakers and behavioral
health specialists that can take care of the whole person. Rather than
taking care of physical needs or mental needs, we can take care of the
whole patient and with that help keep them from having to be admitted
to the hospital or help them from having to be seen at the ED and then
connect them with the most appropriate care in the community,” he
said.
Of the total $22 million cost of the project, $17.7 million will be
paid for by the state with the remainder being raised by the hospital.
Construction is expected to take between 18 and 24 months to complete.
