Ulster lawmakers to vote on resolution condemning violence, hate speech, expressing solidarity with Muslims

KINGSTON – One of many resolutions on a long agenda for tonight’s Ulster County Legislature monthly meeting expresses “… solidarity with Muslims and all those targeted for their ethnicity, race or religion.“ 
The memorializing resolution, which does not have power of law, notes that “The United States was founded by immigrants, many fleeing religious persecution.”  Also noted is that even before the formal founding of the nation, African Muslims were enslaved and brought to the new world.   
More than three million Muslims live in the Unitred States. That includes over 1,500 reported to be living in Ulster County 
Listed as sponsors are several members of the minority Democratic caucus.
