KINGSTON – Republican John Faso, a former state assemblyman, and Democrat Zephyr Teachout, a former gubernatorial candidate, are neck and neck in the race for the 19th Congressional District seat, which represents a large portion of the Hudson Valley and Catskills and extends to other areas of the state.
Incumbent Republican Congressman Christopher Gibson is retiring at the end of the year to teach on the college level.
With just three days left before November 8, Faso said residents are worried about the economic and its impact on their pocketbooks.
“They are really concerned about the level of taxation and regulation that is affecting job growth in our state and across America and I think there is a lot of uncertainty about the future,” he said. “They are very opposed to the health insurance premiums they are getting now because of Obamacare.”
Teachout is hearing that Washington is broken.
“What I hear across this district is people saying they want to get Congress working again, working for the people,” she said. “I have a history of standing up to big corporations, being based in the grassroots; that really matters to people.”
