KINGSTON – The proposed Ulster County budget includes cuts in most, if not all, departmental budgets for next year. They range from the sheriff’s office to comptroller and several in between.
Comptroller Elliott Auerbach’s budget, if approved by the county legislature, would be reduced by 25 percent, a figure he says would gut his department.
State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, who said Auerbach is doing a good
job for the taxpayers of Ulster County, told Mid-Hudson News that he supports
the notion that the county comptroller should have all of the resources
necessary to continue doing his job.
“As we continue to navigate through challenging times where accountability, transparency, are key priorities for all levels of government, the role of the comptroller – the state comptroller or county comptroller – is really important and in the end can help save money,” DiNapoli said. “So, making sure the comptroller has adequate staff, should be a very important priority.”
Auerbach has said he would have to cut two of his seven staffers if the
budget cuts go through.
