NEWBURGH – A late Tuesday afternoon fire under an outside porch on a building at 238 First Street in the City of Newburgh spread into the structure, but firefighters had the bulk of it extinguished in a little over a half hour.

Fire officials said it broke out just before 4:55 p.m.

A second-alarm was called in 10 minutes later and mutual aid fire departments responded from Cronomer Valley, the Stewart Air National Guard Base, and West Point.

At 5:30 p.m., the bulk of the fire had been extinguished and crews checked for extension to other parts of the building.

The fire department cleared the scene at 6:30 p.m.

The cause of the fire was under investigation. There were no reports of any injuries.
