Bediako: “… we have all had enough …”

NEWBURGH – The mother of Keyshan Gayle, the 18-year-old Newburgh Free Academy graduate who was gunned down on a city street on August 30, is calling for an end to the violence in the City of Newburgh.
Jennifer Bediako addressed the city council in a tearful plea, saying her son was an innocent victim who was waiting for a friend outside a grocery store when gunfire erupted, taking his life.
She said the street lights and security camera in the area at Fullerton Avenue and Third Street were not functioning and the area was pitch black.

“Me and my family, we have all had enough,” Bediako said.
“Unity is a key. I am determined and I hope you will join me in
fighting for my son, Keyshan Gayle, as well as any other victim of a crime
to unite and light up our city with key cameras to provide key evidence
so that nothing like this ever happens again.”
Other family members also spoke of the violence in the city.
Three new, more modern cameras are awaiting installation on city streets and the police department has applied for a grant to purchase a new technology program that would pinpoint exactly where gunfire has occurred immediately after it has taken place.
