Kurban – new opportunity at
upstate hospital

POUGHKEEPSIE – The Dutchess County Commissioner of Behavioral and
Community Health is resigning next month, less than one year after being
appointed.
Dr. Henry Kurban will leave his position on September 23 to work at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, where he completed his postgraduate internship work. The new job will allow him to focus on the clinical services and direct patient care rather than the programmatic and administrative aspects required as a commissioner.
Kurban joined Dutchess County government in January of this year after most recently serving as health director for the Florida Department of Health – Charlotte County Health Department in Port Charlotte.
County Executive Marcus Molinaro said he is “a true believer in listening to your heart and following your passion in one’s career choices. The opportunity at Bassett Hospital provides Dr. Kurban the chance to be more hands-on in patient care and more closely connects him with family near Cooperstown.”
Molinaro said the county has begun an executive search to find a candidate with the necessary combination of management skill and clinical knowledge to serve as commissioner.
The county exec will appoint an acting commissioner from within the department in September pending approval from the state Department of Health.
