One car fatality in Red Hook

RED HOOK – The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office is continuing
to investigate a one-car fatal crash that occurred on State Route 9 in
the Town of Red Hook near the Columbia County line. The crash occurred
Monday at around 10:50 a.m.

The driver and sole occupant was unconscious and trapped in the vehicle
and was later pronounced dead at the scene, Sheriff’s Captain John
Watterson said.

The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of his relatives.

Preliminary investigation revealed the vehicle was traveling southbound
when it ran off Route 9 and struck a tree.

The road was closed for investigation for three hours. The sheriff’s
office was assisted at the scene by the Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s
Office and Town of Red Hook Fire Department.
