Five struck by lightning in Poughkeepsie

UPDATE – It is now reported that one of the persons struck by lightning
has died.
POUGHKEEPSIE – Five people who were at Mansion Square Park in Poughkeepsie
just after 4 p.m. on Friday were struck by lightning with three unresponsive
and two conscious, but injured. They ranged in age from 46 to 55.
City Police said CPR was started on the three unresponsive people, who were transported to Vassar Brothers Medical Center where they were still being treated early Friday evening.
The other two were taken to MidHudson Regional Hospital.
Everyone in the group had been sitting or standing together on or near a park bench that was on the north side of the park.
Two eyewitnesses report seeing a bolt of lightning strike near the group and saw articles near the people burning and smoking.
