Queens man arrested in Sullivan County for possession of psychedelic mushrooms

MAMAKATING – A 19-year-old Queens man has been arrested by State
Police on Route 17 in the Town of Mamakating and charged with felony criminal
possession of a controlled substance. Fernando Macareno had in possession
more than five grams of psilocybin mushrooms.

He was a passenger in a car driven by Sean Barriga, 22, of Queens, who
was pulled over for talking on a cell phone, was charged with several
traffic offenses and unlawful possession of marijuana.

Another passenger, Oscar Mejia, 19, of Floral Park, was also charged with
unlawful possession of marijuana.

Barriga and Mejia were released on appearance tickets while Macareno was
remanded to the Sullivan County Jail on $2,500 bail.
