Mayor Kennedy at a recent council session

NEWBURGH – Mayor Judy Kennedy has called a special meeting of the
Newburgh City Council for this evening to ask members to name a president
pro-tem for the month of August.

A council resolution calls for Councilwoman Karen Mejia to serve in the
temporary position.

During Kennedy’s absence, Mejia would preside over council meetings,
perform all functions, and have all the powers of the mayor.

Kennedy will undergo surgery next week and will be available for limited
meetings during the next couple of months.

“I ask for prayers for full healing from the community and thank
everyone for your support and understanding while I am going through the
healing process,” she said.
