PURCHASE – The American Lung Association held its first Lung Force
Walk Westchester on Saturday raising $75,000 and attracting over 500 participants.
The two-mile walk through Manhattanville College in Purchase was part
of a nationwide movement to raise awareness around lung cancer in women.
The event was kicked off with a short speaking program honoring local
“Lung Force Heroes,” lung cancer survivors, advocates and
families.
“The Lung Force movement is growing around the country, and we are
excited to see the enthusiastic support coming out of all corners of New
York State,” said Rebecca Silver Fisher, vice president of Development
for the American Lung Association of the Northeast. She said the walk
made it possible to raise awareness about how to prevent lung disease
and lung cancer.
The American Lung Association’s Lung Force movement included 43
walks in 28 states this year.
The Lung Force Walk Westchester was hosted and organized by the American
Lung Association of the Northeast and sponsored by Orange Regional Medical
Center and White Plains Hospital.
All Lung Force events raise funds for research, early detection, advocacy,
education and awareness for lung cancer, particularly awareness about
the high rate of lung cancer in women.
