Blue Hole at Peekamoose

TOWN OF DENNING – Proposed permanent regulations for the Blue Hole and Peekamoose Valley in the Town of Denning have been developed by the state Department of Environmental Conservation and they were outlined to the public at a session Tuesday night.
DEC Regional Natural Resources Supervisor William Rudge said they have dual goals.
“The purpose of the regulations is to protect water quality and other natural resource values and in this really spectacular Peekamoose Valley, in particular the Upper Rondout Creek, which is experiencing a lot of public use and it is also to protect the public,” Rudge said.  “There are some safety issues that we wanted to address with these regulations as well.”
The proposed regulations would restrict hours the area is open; require
use of portable restroom facilities and dumpster; prohibit camping, all
fires and portable generators at the Blue Hole; limit parking; and prohibit
glass containers, radios and other audio devices.
