POUGHKEEPSIE – Central Hudson is investing $128 million this year in its electric and natural gas systems. With improvements projected through 2021, the company will be spending an estimated $730 million to “support the ongoing transition to a cleaner and more efficient energy delivery system, said company President Michael Mosher.
The upgrades include replacing 13 miles of aging natural gas mains with polyethylene materials. That work will take place in 10 communities. Natural gas service will be expanded into seven new neighborhoods to accommodate demand by local residents and businesses.
Environmental remediation will take place at a former manufactured gas plant on the Rondout Creek in the City of Kingston.
Storm hardening measures will be implemented on aging electric transmission lines in the towns of Pleasant Valley, Lagrange and Wawarsing. Other similar work will be undertaken once permits are obtained over the next two to three years in the towns of East Fishkill, Poughkeepsie, Catskill, Kingston and Saugerties.
