STORMVILLE – The more than $10 million New York City MTA canine training center will formally open early next month.
The facility, near Green Haven Correctional Facility in Dutchess County, is situated on 72 acres.
MTA Police Chief Michael Coan announced the opening of the facility at the Metro-North Railroad Committee meeting of the MTA on Monday.
“It’s a state of the art facility with indoor and outdoor training capability,” Coan said.  “We have kennels for overnight lodging and we have room for vet-techs so that we can keep our canines the best trained in the country as well as the healthiest.”
Coan credited Metro-North with spearheading the project.
Until now, MTA canines were trained in several locations including the Orange County Sheriff’s Canine center.
