ALBANY – Allowing the option to become an organ donor on New York State’s Health Benefit Exchange will become a reality if Governor Cuomo signs legislation into law.
The Senate previously passed the bill.  The Assembly approved it on Wednesday. It was sponsored by Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther (D, Forestburgh), a registered nurse.
Nationally, New York has the third largest number of people waiting for an organ and tissue transplant, yet ranks second to last in registered donors, as a percentage of the population,” she said.
New York’s primary methods for enrollment as an organ donor are on applications at motor vehicle offices and on voter registration forms.
