POUGHKEEPSIE – Close to 1,000 people took part in the American Heart
Association’s Heart Walk at Vassar College on Saturday to raise
funds for the organization’s heart programs and search.

The event featured a heart healthy two- or four-mile walk, heart health
education, Kids Zone, refreshments and entertainment.

“Heart disease and stroke are the number one and five killers in
the Hudson Valley,” noted Heart Walk Chairman Vincent Amodeo. “We’re
grateful for all of the local residents who joined this exciting and inspiring
event to support the important work of the American Heart Association.”

The walk is part of the association’s Healthy Living campaign to
improve the heart health of Americans. The American Heart Association
recommends physical activity, like walking, for 30 minutes on most days
of the week to strength your heart, improve your health and prevent the
leading killers – heart disease and stroke.

Another Heart Walk will be held at SUNY New Paltz on Saturday, April 9.

Some 1,000 people participated in the Heart Walk
