NEWBURGH – Three additional surveillance cameras are to be installed on Newburgh city streets in the war against crime.
Councilman Torrance Harvey spearheaded the idea to add them to the undisclosed number already keeping an eye on the street. He termed crime “the nucleus” of many of the challenges facing Newburgh.
“Without disclosing all the specifics about the numbers of cameras and things that are functional in the city, they have come up with sort of a preliminary plan to add three cameras to what exist already, on the short-term get those current ones going, and then in the long-term, there is a plan to come up with a comprehensive video surveillance program and a comprehensive plan that includes cameras that would be throughout the city,” Harvey said.
A+ Technologies has the low bid under state contract to sell and install those cameras, which would cost an estimated $43,000 for the three new ones.
