KINDERHOOK – John Faso, the former Republican Assemblyman and government-reform candidate, on Wednesday won the Ulster County Republican Committee endorsement for the 19th district U.S. House seat with 62 percent of the vote, the campaign announced on Thursday.
Faso is running to fill the seat now held by Repubican Chris Gibson (R), who is not seeking reelection.
With this latest victory, Faso has won the majority of conventions’ grassroots support and becomes the endorsed Republican candidate under rules agreed to by the participants.
In backing Faso, Ulster County GOP Chair Roger Rascoe said the candidate’s background, commitment to the district and his legislative record clearly distinguished him from the field.
“John Faso knows firsthand the challenges that we face in Ulster County and in this country,” said Rascoe. ”
As a member of the New York Assembly, Faso developed and pushed proposals that led to real balanced budgets – including the first reduction in state spending in decades while closing a $5 billion deficit. He championed legislation that made a difference for tens of thousands of families such as the STAR program and education and real property tax reform.
“Together, we will return our country, which has been severely weakened on all fronts by the Obama Administration, to a nation that focuses on growth, strength and values,” said Faso.  “If elected your next Congressman, I will fight for small businesses, protect the interests of residents of the 19th District and lead efforts to undo the damage Washington has created.”
