GOSHEN – Republican State Senator William Larkin has already announced he is seeking reelection this fall, but no Democrat has surfaced.
Assemblyman James Skoufis has been considering a challenge, but the Democrat has made no announcement and has avoided questions about a potential run.
Orange County Democratic Party Chairman Brett Broge said the state Democratic committee has its eyes on Skoufis.
“The state (Democratic) committee is pushing heavy for James to run and I think if you see all the stuff on Facebook, the Republican Committee is running Facebook ads against James Skoufis in an effort to discourage him from running, so I think both Albany committees are looking at James as a potential opponent,” Broge said.
Last week, Mamakating Town Supervisor William Herman announced he would seek the Democratic nomination for the adjacent State Senate seat held by Republican John Bonacic.
