LOCH SHELDRAKE – Sullivan County Community College President Dr.
Karin Hilgersom, Ph.D., is a finalist candidate for president of Phoenix
College in Arizona.

This is the second time in less than a year that she was a finalist candidate
for another job. She was one of three final candidates for the presidency
of Spokane Community College in the State of Washington, but was not selected.

Now, Hilgersom is one of the three final candidates in the presidential
search for Phoenix College, according to its website. The SCCC president
since February 2013 met with members of the community in Phoenix and top
college officials earlier this month. Also being interviewed were the
two other final candidates, Dr. Rebecca Silva, Ph.D., vice president for
student learning, chief academic officer at Texas State Technical College,
Harlingen campus, and Dr. Muddassir Siddiqi, Ed.D., interim president
of Morton College, Cicero, IL.
Hilgersom served as the executive vice president for Walla Walla Community
College and for Central Oregon Community College, both located in the
Pacific Northwest.

Phoenix College is the flagship of the Maricopa Community Colleges, one
of the co0untry’s largest community college systems and the largest
provider of higher education and career training in Arizona.

Hilgersom’s biography says her “lifelong passion” has
been the community college mission.
