POUGHKEEPSIE – Rehabilitation work to replace deteriorating beams on Bridge E-9 on Palen Road in East Fishkill has been completed allowing for the reopening of two-lane traffic. All weight restrictions have been lifted, according to the Dutchess County Public Works Department.
As part of the repair project, the bridge was raised slightly and expanded to create three-foot shoulders.
The bridge over the Fishkill Creek averages some 9,600 vehicles per day.
The repair work began last July and was originally slated to be completed in two stages with the second stage completed this coming spring; however, the work schedule was accelerated and several temporary road closures resulted in an earlier-than-anticipated bridge reopening.
The total cost of the bridge repair work was just over $2 million with 80 percent of the costs eligible for federal reimbursement.
