MONTICELLO – Now that construction
will begin in earnest shortly on the Montreign casino and resort in Kiamesha
Lake, employment should grow substantially in the entire region. That
assessment comes from John Nelson, a state labor department analyst who
tracks the numbers around the Hudson Valley.

Nelson said there should be an immediate positive impact once the work begins.
“A project of magnitude will benefit the entire region if not the entire state,” Nelson said.  “On the construction side right away, since they do have two years this facility, so right away we are going to see construction jobs that will be available to the local job seekers. Then, further down the road, we will see overall job numbers added once the casino is open.”
Some 1,000 jobs are expected to be generated from the construction of the project and as many as 2,400 when it is fully operational.
