KINGSTON – The valves that control the water supply coming into the City of Kingston shut off temporarily at about 9:40 a.m. Tuesday dropping pressure down to a minimum citywide. The closure of the valves came without warning, said city water Superintendent Judith Hansen.
“As a result all water flow into the city stopped and most customers experienced a brief drop in pressure,” Hansen said.
Normal service came back in 15 minutes as a result of quick response from department personnel.
City officials conferred with the Ulster County Health Department and announced there was no need for residents to boil water when the faucets began to work again.
What caused the valves to close could not be immediately learned.
Hansen said the system is being flushed and out of an abundance of caution, the water department is collecting samples throughout the city to confirm there are no water quality issues.
