Poughkeepsie man charged with July murder

POUGHKEEPSIE – A Poughkeepsie
man, who is in the Dutchess County Jail on unrelated charges, has been
indicted and charged with murder in connection with the July 21 shooting
death of Willie Trotman, 37, of Wappingers Falls. This was the second
homicide this year.

Kaheem Cummings, 22, was indicted on the murder charge by the Dutchess
County grand jury.

Cummings has been in the Dutchess County Jail since July 31 after he was
indicted and arrested for the armed robbery of a Newburgh cabbie in Poughkeepsie
on July 13. Cummings and several others robbed the driver at gunpoint
and fled the scene. The incident was also being investigated by the Poughkeepsie
City Police Detective Bureau in cooperation with the district attorney’s
office.

Det. Lt. Matthew Clark said they are also trying to solve another murder
in Poughkeepsie. On June 30 at 9:30 p.m., Shameek Floyd was found lying
on Mansion Street with a gunshot wound to the head. He died on July 5.
