WHITE PLAINS – A New York City man, who was a former speech and
drama teacher at Horace Greeley High School in Chappaqua, was arraigned
in Westchester County Court on Wednesday on charges of inappropriate conduct.

Christopher Schraufnagel, 41, was charged with criminal sexual act as
a felony, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and four
counts of sexual abuse, all as misdemeanors.

From May 1, 2011 to June 5, 2015, Schraufnagel allegedly engaged in several
instances of sexual assault, inappropriate sexual conduct and contact
with three underage students at the school.

The District Attorney’s Office said in May and June of 2011, he
engaged in oral sexual conduct with a then-15-year-old student inside
the school.

In December 2014, he asked a student at the school to participate in a
slideshow kissing every student in one of his classes while he took pictures.
The next day, another of Schraufnagel’s students was directed by
him to have the same victim kiss additional male and female students while
he photographed them. He then showed the slideshow to one of classes full
of students in an attempt to humiliate the students.

It is also alleged that between October 2014 and early June of this year,
he had a number of instances of inappropriate conversations with strong
sexual overtones and sexual contact with another student at the school.

A complaint was brought to New Castle Police and after a lengthy investigation
by the police and Special Prosecutions Division of the DA’s Office,
Schraufnagel surrendered Wednesday morning.

Bail was set at $12,500. If convicted, he faces up to four years in prison.
