GOSHEN – The proposed Orange County budget for 2016 drew no speakers at Thursday’s county legislature Ways and Means Committee public hearing.
Chairman Leigh Benton said the spending plan as proposed by County Executive Steven Neuhaus is down from this year’s.
“For this year the county executive is proposing a county budget of $725.27 million, and it represents a decrease this year in spending of $7.5 million,” Benton said.  “Most of that money is collected from sales tax and property taxes and unfortunately, most of it is state unfunded mandates.”
County lawmakers are reviewing the spending plan piece by piece in their oversight committees with few changes being made.

Only a dozen people showed for the public hearing. None spoke.
