Police dog detects drugs in vehicle at prison

ELLENVILLE – State Police arrested a Brooklyn man on a charge that he tried to smuggle drugs into Eastern Correctional Facility in the Town of Wawarsing.
John Saunders, 42, was charged with felony promoting prison contraband and misdemeanor drug possession.  He had gone to the prison to visit an inmate.  He is now in the Ulster County Jail without bail pending a future court appearance.
Authorities conducted a K-9 sweep at Eastern Correctional on Saturday,
October 10 targeting the possessions and vehicles of visitors to the prison.  
A State Police K-9 unit detected and located one electronic cigarette
with hash oil in Saunders’ car.
