TOWN OF WALLKILL – A Town of Wallkill resident sustained injures when a man who also lives in the same home at 160 Gillen Road struck the younger man with a rifle butt. The alleged assailant, Robert Campbell, 56, also fired a shot from the weapon and fled back into the home.
Wallkill Police officers rendered aid to the 22-year-old victim who was treated and released from Orange Regional Medical Center in Wallkill.
Campbell did not immediately surrender to police, who persuaded him to come out about 15 minutes later. The rifle used in the assault was recovered along with a shotgun and a revolver.
Campbell was charged with assault, criminal possession of a weapon and menacing. He is in the Orange County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond.
