Heavy rains causing flooding in region

MID-HUDSON – The National Weather Service has issued a Flood
Warning for the Esopus Creek at Cold Brook until tonight.

At 8 a.m. today, the stage was 9.1 feet. Flood stage is 11 feet. Minor
flooding is forecast.

The river was forecast to reach flood stage by 11 a.m. today and continue
to rise to near 12.7 feet around 2 p.m. The river is forecast to fall
below overflow stage after 5 p.m.

At 11 feet, the impact is expected to be at flood stage with water beginning
to overflow banks above the Ashokan Reservoir with little damage, the
National Weather Service said.

At mid-morning today, there were reports of a water rescue on Route
212 at Old Route 212 in Centerville with people trapped in a vehicle
on a flooded roadway.

There was also a water rescue in the Town of Ulster on Leggs Mills Road
with an entire trailer park flooded. First responders with boats were
brought in to rescue the people.

The Ulster County Sheriff’s Office reminds people that due to flooding
conditions they should exercise caution and beware of their surroundings..
Do not drive on flooded roadways and if you live near an area that
routinely floods, be aware of your surroundings and watch the water
levels to avoid becoming involved in a life threatening situation.
If you encounter an emergency, call 911 for immediate aid.
In other flood-related news, Route 218 isn closed between West Point
and the Cornwall town line because of weather conditions.
