NEWBURGH – The Newburgh City Police Department held another community barbeque on Sunday as part of its community policing program, an ongoing initiative to curb and eliminate the gun and drug violence that has plagued the city.  The event was held in the heart of the notorious high-crime area at the intersection of Van Ness and Lutheran streets in the Flats.
The cost of the food and drinks was borne by the officers.
Mayor Judy Kennedy even stopped by for a hotdog and praised Sgt. Joe Cortes and all of the officers who were present.
Members of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office were also present to show a presence, meet the residents and assist with traffic control.
