NEWBURGH – Filled potholes
during the cold winter months will last much longer now that Newburgh
has purchased a hotbox to apply hot blacktop patch in them.
Typically cold patch is applied to potholes in the winter, but that is easily popped out.
City Manager Michael Ciaravino said the new device will allow for filling potholes all year long and with a more permanent bond.
“Whenever we are using a hot patch, it is like its own bond within the hole, versus a cold patch, which is the equivalent of just loose gravel that is held together with a prayer before the plows come and uproot it again,” Ciaravino said. “It speaks to the long-term durability in the winter time pothole filling season.”
The cost of the machine is coming from the city’s capital budget.
