WASHINGTON – The national online lottery that provides each US
senator with 100 tickets for constituents to see and hear Pope Francis
when he speaks on the Capitol lawn at the end of the month will include
six residents of the Hudson Valley.
Senator Charles Schumer announced the winners on Wednesday:  Thomas Gallo, Diana Healey, Eileen Hobbs, Rosemarie Gonzalez, Robin Donovan, and Nancy Reinauer.
Schumer, who is Jewish, said regardless of whether you are Catholic or not, it is a great honor to have the Pope speak in Washington and come to New York.
“I am really looking forward to his address,” the senator said.  This pope is a Jesuit. He is acting very much in the spirit of his order – humility, humor, humanity, and I thought that the Holy Father has just done an amazing job so far, and whether you are Catholic or not, I think we are all proud of him and all proud that he is coming to the United States.”
Schumer noted Pope Francis is only the fourth Pope to come to the US.
