MIDDLETOWN – Pets Alive Animal Sanctuary in Middletown has taken three horses after state police arrested a Port Jervis couple last week for failure to provide proper care for their animals.
Steven and Loretta Doss were charged after they received a citizen complaint. Police discovered 48 rabbits, three horses, three cows, three goats, a pot-bellied pig, a dog and a cat that were not properly cared for at a leased farm in Minisink where the couple housed the animals, all of which were seized and sent to various rescues and animal organizations for care.
The horses taken by Pets Alive were “severely underweight,” said the agency’s farm manager Cindy O’Brien, who said they were living in very confined and unsanitary space.
