Cameron: “… we have seen
a difference …”

NEWBURGH – Now that Acting Newburgh Police Chief Daniel Cameron has been appointed permanent chief, he is looking to continue his efforts at improving community relations.
Cameron, an 18-year-veteran of the city police department, was a lieutenant when he was named acting chief several months ago when then-chief Michael Ferrara retired following a long career with the department.
The new chief said improving the crime situation in Newburgh is “a marathon, not a sprint” situation.
“We are not going to fix crime without the community,” Cameron said. “Our big push is to realign with our community so they can join us in our crime fighting efforts. In seven months we have seen a difference and our officers have seen the difference so the momentum is moving forward and we are going to do whatever we can to continue that momentum.”
Cameron’s appointment was made by the city manager.  The full city council and the community-at-large urged his appointment to the post.
