BEACON – The City of Beacon will locate
its new highway department garage on a portion of the former Camp Beacon
state prison property.

The state shut that down over a year ago as a budget cutting measure.
Mayor Randy Casale said the city got a very good deal on the eight acres of property adjacent to Fishkill prison.
“After they were asking for over $100,000, we negotiated and got it for $1 for highway betterment,” Casale said.
There are over 30 additional acres the state wants to sell at that location.
“They went out for an RFP and there was one person who put in for the RPF and they are still contemplating if they are going to award it or not,” the mayor said.
City of Beacon officials received the deed for the property on which they will build their new facility.
